Pursue Justice: Deep South Pilgrimage 2023

A core part of our mission is to pursue justice.

One way we are seeking to pursue justice this year is our Deep South Pilgrimage.

We have invited the other two UMCs in Cornelius, Hunters Chapel UMC and Mount Zion UMC, to join us for a Deep South Pilgrimage. . Our journey will include stops in Selma, Montgomery, and Birmingham. We will charter a bus and visit many different places of historical significance in the Civil Rights Movement and the continuing struggle for racial justice. There will be time for prayer, discussion, and reflection before, during, and after the pilgrimage. While these three churches are approaching this journey from a standpoint of Christian discipleship, all are invited to participate.

When: March 8-11, 2023

Cost: The pilgrimage costs $550 which would include transportation, hotels (double occupancy), admission to the sites, and three of the meals. The remaining meals will be paid for out of pocket.

$300 Deposits are due on January 20 (DEADLINE EXTENDED TO FEB 1st!) to reserve your spot. We have a 53 person cap.

The remaining $250 is due on February 20, 2023.

Checks should be made out to to Mount Zion UMC and either dropped off or mailed to 19600 Zion Ave, Cornelius, NC 28031. Please be sure to put in the memo line "DEEP SOUTH."

*We do not want cost to stop someone who desires to participate. Please let us know if you'd like to have a conversation about financial assistance.

Hotel rooms will be double occupancy. If you'd like to reserve a single room for an additional charge, you are welcome to let us know below.

The Rev. Dr. Anthony Hunt, a civil rights scholar and United Methodist clergy, will be accompanying us and facilitating our times of discovery and reflection. Learn about him here: http://www.canthonyhunt.com/

We are offering two prep sessions led by our facilitator the Rev. Dr. Anthony Hunt. This will be a time for you to meet those you are journeying alongside and begin to reflect.
